San Diego Black Out – 10 Things we Learned

We already know these 10 things. We’re just too busy to implement them. Shame on us! We have spent the past 2 years researching and creating an emergency preparedness website! So, yes this is a bit embarrassing!
I was really caught off guard yesterday when the power went out in all of Southern California. Lights go out; computer screens go black. And we all just sit and wait; assuming it's a 15 second outage, and all will be back to normal within minutes. Not today…although all is well in the end; our power came back on within 10 – 12 hours in most cases. It was a little scary. It made us think.
Here, in a nut shell, is what we learned. And why we are fast at work on our own family emergency plan. Click the links below to find out why we put these on our top 10 list of things we need to do first.
1. Communication is key
2. Always have gas in your tank
3. Solar lights are awesome
4. I need a battery operated phone charger!
5. Have cash on hand
6. If you have no other food storage; have some water!
7. Don't open that refrigerator door"!
8. Have extra food for your pets!
9. Fill up those propane tanks.
10. Don’t put off til tomorrow…
